Driving through Europe is an experience I’ll never forget — especially when you’re sharing it with your child. This summer, my daughter and I set out on a road trip from Norway to France, taking in stunning landscapes, exciting attractions, and plenty of unexpected moments along the way. Each stop was a new adventure, and we created memories that I will cherish forever.
We had so many unforgettable stops on the way to Paris, but I’ll save the magic of Disneyland for another post! First, let me take you through our amazing adventures in Gothenburg, Sweden, Timmendorfer Strand, Germany, and Köln, Germany.
First Stop: Gothenburg, Sweden — Liseberg Amusement Park
Our road trip kicked off with a stop in Gothenburg, Sweden, and it couldn’t have been a better start. After a long drive from Norway, we checked into Gothia Towers & Upper House, a sleek hotel right next to Liseberg Amusement Park. The hotel offered stunning views of both the city and the park itself, and we were immediately excited to explore.

Exploring Liseberg Amusement Park
After a quick check-in, we couldn’t wait to get out and start exploring. We dropped our bags in the room, swapped into comfy clothes, and made our way straight to Liseberg, just a short walk from the hotel.
Liseberg is one of Scandinavia’s most famous amusement parks, and it did not disappoint. The energy was contagious, with families and thrill-seekers enjoying the many rides and attractions. From towering roller coasters to whimsical carousels, there was something for both of us to enjoy. But the highlight of the day? A thrilling water ride that soaked us both from head to toe!
My Daughter’s Favorite Ride
The ride was a boat journey that ended with a massive splash. As we reached the final drop, water poured over us, and my daughter couldn’t stop giggling. I was drenched, but honestly, I was just as excited to hop back on for another round! Sometimes, it’s the simple pleasures that make the best memories.

Taking in the Atmosphere
Aside from the thrill rides, we spent some time wandering around the park. The atmosphere at Liseberg was absolutely magical — vibrant gardens, live entertainment, and plenty of food stalls to keep us fueled throughout the day. We enjoyed classic fair snacks like cotton candy, all while soaking up the lively surroundings.

A Dreamy Breakfast at Gothia Towers & Upper House
After an action-packed day at Liseberg, we were eager to start the next day with a relaxing breakfast. Gothia Towers & Upper House had an amazing breakfast buffet on the top floor, and let me tell you, it was a dream come true. Fresh fruits & pastries, creamy cheeses, smoked salmon, and delicious Swedish pancakes filled the spread.
But the real highlight? The view. From the top floor of the hotel, we had a panoramic view of Gothenburg. The entire city stretched out before us, with Liseberg in the distance and the beautiful Gothenburg skyline in full view. It was the perfect way to start the day — with a full stomach and a view that took our breath away.

Reflections on Gothenburg: A Perfect Start to Our European Road Trip
As we sipped our morning coffee and watched Gothenburg wake up from our hotel window, I couldn’t help but reflect on how incredible this city was as the first stop on our road trip. Gothenburg offered us a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and family fun. We got to experience the thrill of Liseberg, explore the beautiful cityscape, and enjoy delicious Swedish food.
But the best part? The time spent with my daughter, sharing in the excitement and making memories that we will talk about for years to come. It was an unforgettable start to our European road trip — and there was so much more to come!
What’s Next on Our Journey?
As much as we loved Gothenburg, it was time to hit the road again. Our next stop took us to Timmendorfer Strand, a charming beach town in Germany, where we relaxed by the sea, visited a cool aquarium, and soaked up the laid-back vibe. Stay tuned for more updates on our travels as we make our way through Europe — from Germany to France, with even more adventures ahead!
